If your child loved paper crafting when they were young but needs more of a challenge now, My Creative Camp may have designed the perfect crafting kit for them. The Beginner’s Quilling Kit is an all-in-one compact box for ages 8+ with the supplies and instructions for over 10 paper crafting projects.

A special thank you to Timberdoodle Co. for providing this complimentary kit in exchange for our honest review.

My 10-year-old daughter enjoys crafty things, so I figured this kit would be right up her alley. When we opened the box her eyes lit up as we saw the variety of designs that could be made.

When you open the box, you’re greeted with colorful supplies, a design booklet, quick reference chart, and a QR code for their YouTube Channel. If you have a visual learner, I highly recommend checking out the quick video tutorials on technique and designs. This is how my daughter learned how to do it on her own.

First off, what is quilling? Simply put, it’s a paper crafting art form that utilizes thin strips of colorful paper that are rolled, formed and glued together to create designs that can be applied to cards, photo frames, magnets, and the like.

Each Beginner’s Quilling Kit is complete with a design book, paper strips, tools, paper frames, cards, and cardstock, glue, and gem stickers.

The handy storage case keeps your papers and tools together and neat.

(Please ignore my child’s blue fingers that were dyed from another crafting project.)

First you pick your design. In the booklet a heart, grapes, butterfly, flower, sun, fish, pineapple, birthday cake, plant, and rainbow are illustrated. Using the provided tools, you roll the strips of paper, measure, shape and glue together.

Once you have your piece ready, dip it in glue and place on your desired card for the finished product.

My daughter was so excited about the butterflies and flowers she created. As I watched her create, I could see she was really enjoying the details of the crafting. Picking the colors, rolling the paper, making the shapes and arranging her final project.

She eagerly designed a card for her grandparents and a birthday card for her friend. As she gains confidence she knows she can make designs as shown, but also create her own designs, which opens up the door to imagination and endless creation.

The My Creative Camp Beginner’s Quilling Kit is available in the 4th grade Timberdoodle Curriculum Kit, and also individually.
