Preschoolers and early elementary kids are wired to create, but often building kits are too advanced or fragile to hold up to the demands of little hands. FischerTechnik filled this gap with their Junior Pro set, specifically designed for ages 5 and up, with engaging stickers and a hands-on water squirter that will surprise and delight any child.

FischerTechnik Junior Pro features 81 pieces and 7 different vehicle builds in the instruction manual. They feature wheels that roll, gears that turn, and of course, the water hose that actually squirts water. The theme is rescue vehicles so the models include a fire engine, firefighting drone, cargo wagon and more.
I got out this set with my 4 year old son and 10 year old daughter. Both were excited to build a vehicle together as a family, and they chose our first design.
The size of this set is nice for the younger age range. Enough pieces and variety in builds to keep their interest, without being overwhelming or losing tiny pieces everywhere. I quickly found a plastic tub with a lid to store all the pieces and instruction manual so we wouldn’t lose anything.
The instructions feature large step-by-step instructions guiding you through the pieces you need and where to assemble them. Most designs have 10-20 steps, not too complicated and also not overly simple. The pieces fit together well and the end designs are sturdy enough to withstand basic play.
Because the pieces are bigger and less complicated than FischerTechnik for the older ages, the build didn’t take too long and we all chipped in to get the pieces put together. My 4 year old was able to help when we showed him what piece to place, but I expect that as his building skills increase in the next few years he will be able to make his own builds with ease. For now, it was a fun family project.
He was ecstatic about the water squirting feature, which is a simple tank, tube, and squirt button mechanism. This definitely added a “realness” to his play, though I recommend taking it outside. The water tank tends to drip a little and squirting water inside the house isn’t a great idea either!
